With all the uncertainty around Brexit, we’re taking all the measures to assure we’ll be ok and have the smoothest possible. Take a look at the steps we’re taking to avoid any complications with the potential Brexit changes.
‘The ATA Carnet, often referred to as the "Passport for goods" or "Merchandise passport", is an international customs document that permits the tax-free and duty-free temporary export and import of non-perishable goods for up to one year.’ For years we’ve had to write up and send off our carnet lists for jobs outside of the EU, but now things may be changing, and we may have to produce a carnet for jobs both inside and outside of the EU, according to gov.uk.
A carnet list is mandatory for the temporary importation of equipment into some countries, we’ve spent the past week going through our kit and making a note of individual items names, serial numbers, their country of manufacture, how much they weigh, and how much they’re worth, this information is used at customs to ensure that people importing/exporting goods are bringing what they say they are into the country. It also kills two birds with one stone on our end; with all the information provided our ISO, or International Organisation for Standardisation, process becomes easier to tick all the boxes in order to get us recertified. We’ve thought things through and to make the whole ATA Carnet process as smooth as possible, we’ll be sending our trucks off for jobs one day earlier which mitigates any risks of things being stopped and our rigs being delayed.
Carnet preparation isn’t the only thing we’ve been on top of however; International driving licenses may be required to drive within the EU, so the Cypher and extended crew have been asked to, if necessary, apply for any international driving licenses that may be needed; on top of this, we’re also ensuring all crew that come on jobs now have at least 6 months on their passports. We're also actively looking out for any changes that may affect the way we work in order to come up with solutions as soon as something is thrown our way.
